PTA Chairman Highlights Online Safety for Pakistani Youth


Major General (R) Hafeez ur Rehman, Chairman of the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA), has reiterated the organization’s unwavering dedication to fostering a secure online space, particularly for the youth and children of the nation.

On the occasion of “Safer Internet Day” celebrated on February 6, Major General (R) Hafeez ur Rehman emphasized the indispensable role of the Internet in modern life. He emphasized the PTA’s firm resolve in ensuring a safe digital environment, especially for the vulnerable segments of society such as the youth and children. He stressed that safeguarding online spaces is a shared responsibility, urging all stakeholders to contribute to the creation of a secure digital sphere where Pakistani users can engage safely in their online activities.

Furthermore, Major General (R) Hafeez ur Rehman highlighted PTA’s collaborative efforts with prominent entities such as Meta, United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), and TikTok, among others, in advancing the cause of online safety in Pakistan. He noted with pride that PTA’s endeavors have garnered international recognition, citing the SAMENA Council’s prestigious LEAD award conferred upon PTA in acknowledgment of its efforts in enabling child and youth safety online.

Underscoring that online safety is a global concern, the chairman underscored the imperative of concerted collaboration and coordinated actions by governments and stakeholders worldwide to establish a digital landscape that prioritizes the safety and well-being of every individual.
