PIA flight stopped due to heavy rain

Heavy Rains Disrupt Flights at Karachi Airport

Heavy rainfall in Karachi caused the cancellation of 20 flights on Sunday morning due to operational reasons.

Among the affected flights, the PIA-Jeddah Lahore Flight PK 940 was diverted to Multan, while the Emirates Dubai-Karachi flight EK-602, after refueling in Muscat, returned to Karachi.

The spokesperson mentioned that due to aircraft unavailability, 16 PIA flights couldn’t operate on that day.

Cancellation affected various routes including four Islamabad-Gilgit flights PK-601, 602, 605, and 606, four Karachi-Islamabad flights PK-300, 301, 308, and 369, and two PIA Islamabad-Sukkur flights PK-631 and 632, along with PIA’s Dubai-Islamabad flight PK-211 and 212.

Additionally, according to flight data, PIA flights PK-325 and PK-326 between Quetta-Islamabad were canceled, as well as PIA’s Lahore to Quetta flights PK-322 and 323. A private airline’s Dubai-Islamabad flights PA 210 and 211 were also among the cancellations. Moreover, two flights of foreign airlines from Doha to Multan faced cancellation.

The heavy rains also caused flooding in several main arteries of Karachi, leading to traffic jams and power outages in many parts of the city.

Karachi, Pakistan’s largest city, experiences urban flooding annually, resulting in fatalities due to drowning and electrocution. The heavy rainfall on Saturday submerged many parts of the city, including the Shahrah-e-Faisal road, Old City area, Drigh Road, NIPA flyover, and Natha Khan, among others.—INP
