PTA increases its crackdown on the illegal distribution of SIM cards

The Lahore Zonal Office of the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA), in collaboration with the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) Cyber Crime Circle, successfully carried out a raid in Sheikhupura against a mobile phone company franchisee.

The operation aimed to curb the misuse of illegal SIM cards, which are often linked to criminal activities such as fraud, identity theft, and other illicit operations.

According to a news release, the FIA seized 6 active SIMs and 11 BVS devices used in the unauthorized activation of SIMs during the raid.

Two individuals have been identified and nominated for an FIR, and the FIA is currently conducting further investigations into the matter. It is worth noting that the PTA has implemented a monitoring and detection system to identify unusual patterns and anomalies associated with SIM card activations.

This technological upgrade has facilitated prompt intervention and provided insights into suspicious SIM activations. Overall, the resolute commitment demonstrated by the Authority underscores its dedication to eradicating the illegal issuance of SIMs.—APP
